Optalis is the adult social care delivery partner on behalf of Wokingham Borough Council and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Council. Optalis is owned and funded by the 2 Councils. Optalis is not a private provider or an employment agency.

Activity Support Organiser (Learning Disabilities & Dementia) Full Time £22,572.70
This is a role within our Community Lives Services supporting Learning Disability, Physical Disability, Older Persons and Dementia services.

To offer and provide a broad range of opportunities and support to vulnerable adults using community resources.

4 days will be spent involved with activity support responsibilities, some of which are listed below. The 5th day weekly will have responsibilities for supporting our older customers who have learning disabilities and dementia. This day will include visiting customers in their home providing activities.

Duties will involve:
Enable customers to be in control of their services through self-directed support, to support and facilitate activities throughout the day.
Taking an inclusive approach to assist customers on an individual basis to take part in their local community promoting their independence and inclusion.
To empower customers to take control of their lives through self-directed support whilst achieving desired outcomes.

  • Make appropriate use of resources both, in house and from outside providers, including voluntary sector/ charities, to support customers to use community venues.


  • To support customers to maintain and develop skills and encourage their independence. By planning and running a variety of activities.


  • Enable people to develop their confidence & communication skills, and social skills. Making sure that activities are flexible and will support people to be involved in their communities and reach their full potential meeting their identified outcomes.


  • Communicate effectively with customers using a method that is appropriate for the individual e.g. verbal, and object of reference. Present information and opportunities to customers in a way that supports/enables individuals to make informed decisions. Tailor information accordingly to enable customers to be involved in the decision-making process, supporting self-advocacy.


  • Support customers on a one to one or small group basis to access community facilities with all the necessary paperwork to support and develop the individual and services/ support provided.


  • To lead, as required, and support colleagues to organise and deliver high quality activities which are tailored to meet the diverse needs and interests of customers. Having a person-centred approach to enable customers to achieve their identified outcomes.


  • Monitor, evaluate and update programmes and risk assessments in line with customers individual needs in a pro-active and person-centred way. Identifying necessary support and resources to enable customers to achieve their desired outcomes.
