Full Job Description

Your essential role in the processing, testing, storing and distribution of blood and blood products will directly contribute to the saving and improving of patients lives.

We will provide you with an extensive induction and training programme and ongoing development to support you in your role and achieving your career ambitions.

As part of the selection process you will be invited to attend our Blood Centre, so that you can gain an understanding of the requirements of this essential role

Main duties of the job

You will be required to perform a range of routine and non routine tasks for issuing to hospitals the blood donations from our donors, with the support of your supervisor and other team members

You will be responsible for the support and training to less experienced staff

You will be required to undertake precise repetitive manipulation of equipment and blood samples/donations and carry out routine tasks on a regular basis

You will be required to handle blood bags and a range of equipment

The role will require you to work variable hours and days, weekends and bank holidays as per the roster within the department (unless otherwise rostered within the shift agreement) with appropriate notice

You will be required to manually handle equipment on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training

  • Experience of working in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing or laboratory environment would be an advantage

  • Experience of working with Information Technology such as Microsoft Office

  • Experience of working within a regulated working environment and/or to strict documented procedures would be an advantage, Level 3 qualification e.g. 'A' Levels OR National Diploma in a relevant subject area OR extensive experience of working in a manufacturing, logistics or supply chain environment

  • Minimum of GCSE grade C or above including English and Maths or equivalent qualification eg NVQ Level 2, BTEC level 2 would be desirable or willingness to study for a Level 2 qualification, where funding available Willingness to undertake further training and development
