Great Britain's electricity system is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.
As a Business Intelligence Lead, you'll support our connections team and stakeholders tackle climate change by transitioning GB's electricity system to net zero.

You will be based within the Customer Connections Team at the ESO that manages the connection of major new generation and demand to Great Britain's high voltage electricity network. You'll therefore be at the forefront of helping Great Britain transition rapidly towards a zero-carbon future that can deliver our climate change goals.

We are looking for someone, who is passionate about data and reporting and has a working knowledge of analytics and information management. You will be responsible for data integrity and providing good quality, timely data to support decision making and strategy development. Your ability to pick up processes quickly and anticipate associated data/reporting requirements will be key to your success in this role.

You'll need to be resilient and able to handle the pressures that come within an industry driving forward to enable net zero by 2050. You'll be based in Warwick, Wokingham or Glasgow and can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.,

  • You will work with the Data, Systems and Reporting sub-team to manage scheduled and ad-hoc data requests, supplying vital analysis and business insights

  • Building effective and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders both across the ESO and externally.

  • Working as part of an agile project team with a wide range of business SMEs and IT professionals, in order to deliver systems changes / improvements as part of the overall project plan.

  • Working closely with project leads, highlighting future reporting requirements, to support the deployment of new Salesforce CRM functionality

  • Managing the integrity of all data and systems associated to the Connections process.

  • Supporting the delivery of data cleansing and other data management practises to enhance and future-proof Connections systems

  • Managing your work in an organised and efficient way, reporting regularly against key milestones and deliverables to ensure that your work is delivered on time and to a high standard.

  • Good business analysis skills (Can apply structured approaches to identify, investigate, analyse and communicate complex business problems and opportunities).

  • Relevant/ Good business process improvement experience (Can lead the analysis, identification, design, prioritisation and implementation of process and business changes to improve business operations and services).

  • Methods and tools awareness (Can use, define, tailor, implement and improve methods and tools. You can use the most appropriate tools and techniques to support the planning, analysis, development, testing, implementation and improvement of systems and services).

  • Experience with Agile working (Can demonstrate knowledge of Agile methodology. You can apply an Agile mindset to all aspects of your work)., Strong analytical skills, with a proficiency in analysing large, complex data sets using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.

  • Demonstrated ability of managing information and presenting recommendations/ conclusions to a variety of stakeholders

  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and ability to influence outcomes in alignment with business goals.

  • Becoming the National Energy System Operator
    In Summer of 2024, the ESO will transition to becoming the National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator will be the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain's electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.

    The ESO, including all of its existing roles, will be at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users' need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.

    The organisation will be set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As the ESO are today, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.

    A competitive salary between £50000-£63000 - dependent on experience and capability.
