Full Job Description

Do you enjoy working within product development? Are you collaborative? Are you fast paced with an agile approach? If you have answered yes, then we have a new opportunity for a Design Engineer to join the Engineering department at our manufacturing site based in Whitstable.

You will be required to drive forward the design of both existing and new product development ensuring projects are delivered on time, within specification and to budget. You will ensure the department provides an effective engineering support function to the Operations, Sales, and Marketing departments. You will be responsible for the design and detail of engineering components and complete systems, using the company's 3D CAD system to defined standards.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Undertake CAD modelling and drafting on Inventor 3D CAD to Company standards and procedures


  • Ensure validation & verification is undertaken, documented and recorded


  • Create Engineering Drawings and issue to the required standard


  • Establish, maintain and manage a strong working relationship with new and existing stakeholders


  • Work as part of the core team - utilising the skills and experiences of the group including product management, engineering, technology, production engineering and key shop floor personnel, to develop best in class products


  • Liaise with and provide guidance to the commercial function, manufacturing and project management


  • Maintain suitable issue control and Bill of Materials for the parts and projects and in a timely fashion


  • Advise corrective action to shop floor queries and non-conformance


  • Observe Health and Safety rules at all time


  • Follow Company quality Procedures, Standards and Work Instructions


  • Development and building of Proof of Principle models


  • Design and development of test rigs

    At least 2-years' experience within a multi disciplined environment, ideally around a design function but could encompass production and design disciplines


  • Proven success in developing new product on time, to cost and to specification


  • Familiarity with DFM/DFA plus lean manufacturing methodologies


  • Good communication skills


  • Desirable Experience
  • Experience of designing safety / life critical products in a regulated industry


  • Experience of designing in a regulated industry


  • Understanding of electronics and electrical systems


  • FEA experience


  • Geometric Tolerancing experience, Minimum of BEng or BSc, ideally in an engineering discipline
