Full Job Description

Islamiyah Girls High School are looking for a dedicated, passionate individual to join our Apprenticeship team as an Apprentice. The role will include providing supervision and support for learners, promoting the inclusion and acceptance of learners, assisting the tutors with any duties required and assisting with the planning of learning activities.

It will also allow you to gain the knowledge first-hand needed to complete the qualification! The role includes on and off the job training and allows you to learn and implement skills whilst working in a professional environment.

This role will allow you to achieve the Teaching Assistant Level 3 qualification.

The role of a Teaching/Learning Assistant

Work effectively as part of the Apprenticeship team and with other teaching staff in addressing the needs of learners and contributing in a more general manner to the quality of teaching and learning.

Preparing resources for lessons

Responding to individual needs by personalising resources for an individual or a small group

Supporting the tutor in behaviour management and reinforcing agreed rules in working with learners.

Assisting with assessing, recording and reporting (including verbal feedback) on learner progress and attainment. N.B. Work should always be marked against set criteria

Be familiar with a range of resources suitable for individual or small group needs and use them to ensure learner motivation.

Work with and act upon guidance provided by members of the Apprenticeship team, and other professionals such as Quality and Compliance.

Liaise with the Apprenticeship team regarding progress made, problems arising, and any difficulties with accessing work and/or resources.

Be punctual and begin and end lessons on time.

Set a good example in terms of personal presentation, attendance and punctuality.

Support members of staff in providing a safe learning environment.

Encourage learners to work independently when appropriate, so they take responsibility more for their own learning and develop greater self-confidence, independence and pride in their own work

Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions

Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety and Welfare

Excellent communication/interpersonal skills with learners, staff and senior leaders

Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your position within the team

Desired qualifications

GCSE Grades A

  • -C/9-4 (or equivalent) in maths, English Language and knowledge or use of ICT is desirable but training can be provided.


  • Having the right attitude, work ethic and commitment to your education as well as your employment are essential requirements to this role.
