You will be part of a diverse and inclusive team who construct high quality production A -class surface geometry, which respects all engineering and manufacturing requirements, whilst crucially, protecting the Design intent. Each employee within the group should have both a technical and creative aptitude. Their role will require them to interpret design and engineering data and construct the output using an appropriate A-class surfacing CAD tool with a considered and creative output with high focus on quality. Every individual in the group works toward being an expert in the construction of A-class surfaces and technical design. This requires a significant amount of personal commitment, talent and attention to detail working across every visible part of the vehicle. This creates a true design in context process and allows for the
group to deliver complete vehicles for strategic model making purposes in addition to the technical production release. The groups activity spans from Programme Start to Production Release and beyond whilst supporting of the preproduction Verification Build activity.

This role will challenge the individual to bridge the gap between Design and Engineering through the construction of A-class Surface geometry. As a Lead Digital Surface Engineer, you will be part of a team working alongside experienced A Class Surface Engineers under the direction of a manager. You will lead the development of vehicle areas from small detail assemblies to whole zone layout and construction of A-class geometry using ICEM Surf. In parallel to this technical requirement the role also demands a significant leadership requirement, both to manage team tasks allocated by their management as well as a supporting role in all programme related timing and delivery concerns.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • To digitally model the A-Surfaces of interior components and assemblies delivering feasible geometry on time that achieves design intent whilst balancing the requirements of all customer teams.

  • Using ICEM SURF, show expertise in digital A-Surface design to control the shape and highlights of the vehicle interiors constructing accurately to any given task.

  • To deliver best in class optical quality solutions dealing with conflict between all stakeholders including design, engineering, human factors and manufacturing.

  • To collaboratively drive technical conversations and scheme out multiple design solutions in your A-surfaces to solve geometric and feasibility challenges.

  • Work with, and often direct, inhouse and external resource to deliver A-class geometry to specified quality standards and timing.

  • Be responsible for the quality release of the geometry into the PLM system and the notification to all relevant parties.

  • Be responsible for maintaining accurate and consistent data sets to department standards for visualisation, release and internal transfer.

  • Be the key fact holder representing your work in virtual and physical model reviews and crafted quality audits.

  • To benchmark best in class craftsmanship solutions.

  • Coach, guide and mentor the less experienced members of the team as they develop their software, process, soft and technical skills.

  • To embrace the Reimagine business transformation.

  • To exhibit role model creators code behaviours at all times.

Expert knowledge of A-class surface geometry construction (software other than ICEM Surf considered).

  • Full understanding of interior surface architecture required to construct vehicle interior zones in context.

  • Full understanding of interior trim and ingredients needed to ensure a robust design e.g. safety, craftmanship, tooling, assembly.

  • Has a complete command of the time it takes to complete surfacing tasks and has the ability to work within these with success.

  • Proven communication skills.

  • Passion for design and eye for detail.

  • Knowledge of using a PLM system (TCe/Enovia) and the authoring and storage of part geometry.

  • Role model creators code behaviours.
