Full Job Description

The borough of Basildon is alive with opportunity and has the ingredients to be one of the most successful and desirable places in the South East. As the largest economy in the Thames Estuary outside London, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved but we are never complacent. We are driving inclusive, sustainable growth to provide opportunity and prosperity for local people and businesses, access to quality homes, vibrant town centres and an enhanced local environment. We have ambitious plans for our towns and we are looking for an individual to ensure those plans are realised.

You will join the council's planning strategy and implementation team, working with friendly and supportive colleagues and dealing with a wide variety of planning policy and delivery work relating to the future growth of our borough.

The responsibilities of this Planning Strategy and Implementation officer are specific to managing and monitoring the s106 and CIL planning obligations and handling general enquiries and the planning appeal process for the planning department. The strategy and implementation team is progressing a new Local Plan for adoption projected in 2026, and other key strategic and neighbourhood planning projects. This planning strategy and implementation role will be working in this planning context and you will therefore have ample opportunity to be involved in and contribute to these key projects for the council.

A keen collaborator and team player, you will also have the ability to work across the Regeneration and Planning functions of the Council; with the opportunity to work with the development management, regeneration and enforcement teams. As a strong communicator, verbal and written, you may be involved in all areas of planning for the local authority, including attending developer meetings and member committees.

Basildon Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults, and expects all employees, contractors and volunteers to share its commitment to prevent abuse, harm or exploitation.
