Full Job Description

Training 2000 is a large, independent training provider, based in Blackburn, Lancashire and is owned by the University of Central Lancashire. We have a heritage of over 50 years in Lancashire, delivering learning and development solutions and prides itself on delivery of learning excellence and creating outstanding talent for Lancashire and beyond.

To deliver operational excellence within the areas of responsibility through excellent leadership and management of the people, quality of delivery, learner experience, curriculum, budgetary targets and funding / quality compliance.,

  • To have overall responsibility for Apprenticeship Preparation Programme (Traineeships) and English & Maths provision.

  • To oversee the teaching and delivery within English & Maths / APP ensuring highly effective teaching, learning and assessment.

  • To lead and deliver the English & Maths strategy across the business ensuring that it remains relevant and fit for purpose and embeds the requirements of the Ofsted EIF into everyday practice.

  • To develop and maintain a relevant, future focussed curriculum that meets local and regional needs.

  • To improve learning outcomes ensuring that pass rates are maintained at or above national rates.

  • To be responsible for the accreditation process, ensuring the provision complies with all external qualification awarding body requirements.

  • To ensure all exams are planned and delivered in a timely manner.

  • To promote excellence in all aspects of the English & Maths curriculum including the sharing of good practice and, in conjunction with Quality of Education Manager, ensuring English & Maths is embedded across all curriculum areas.

  • To develop budget plans in conjunction with the Head of Finance, for approval by SMT, and to achieve or exceed the agreed budgetary and performance targets for the areas of responsibility.

  • To be responsible for ensuring the provision complies with all external funding and compliance rules and regulations which includes the accurate and timely data inputting for APP and English & Maths funding to ensure accurate funding draw down.

  • To be accountable for achievement of performance targets in respect of key performance indicators for the department which include:


  • o Financial and budgetary targets

    o Funding rules and compliance

    o Quality of teaching, learning and assessment

    o Learner and customer feedback

    o Timely starts and completion of learners

    o Achievement rate targets

    o Attendance
  • To develop the departmental Self-Assessment Report (SAR) with support from the Quality team and drive improvements in line with the Quality Improvement Plans for the areas of responsibility.

  • To promote and drive a departmental culture of continuous improvement through effective performance management, support and development, ensuring the wellbeing of individuals and teams.

  • To work effectively and proactively with all other operational and functional departments and their managers to ensure both future and existing learners receive an outstanding service and experience.

  • To support the Business Development team to drive partnership and employer engagement activities which may include supporting the identification of potential new opportunities to meet emerging needs.

  • To contribute to the promotion of Training 2000 particularly with employers, learners, schools and parents by assisting with school visits, Parents Information Evenings, Open Events and Prize Nights.

  • To comply with all Company policies and procedures e.g. Safeguarding, Health & Safety, GDPR, Compliance and Equality and Diversity.

  • To undertake any other duties comparable with the role as requested by a member of the leadership team.

    GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at Grade C/4 or above

  • Knowledge and experience of L2 English & Maths and/or Apprenticeship Preparation (Traineeships) provision

  • Knowledge of funding and quality requirements within Further Education

  • Understanding of OFSTED, SAR processes and quality inspection regimes

  • Experience of working with teams and managing staff

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft software including Word, Excel, Email and Teams

  • Experience of budget management

  • Ability to deliver operational business plans and disseminate statistical business and performance data

  • Ability to meet stakeholder expectations with a customer-focussed approach

  • Effective interpersonal, communication skills (written and verbal) and active listening skills

  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

  • Strong time-management, prioritisation and organisational skills

  • Ability to lead others through inspirational leadership which commands respect, in an environment where others feel motivated.

  • Desirable requirements:
  • Level 3 Teaching qualification

  • Management qualification (or willing to work towards)

  • Experience of working in a similar role

  • Experience of using OneFile

  • Experience of using Maytas
