Full Job Description

  • To ensure factory standards are met with regards to good manufacturing practices, hygiene, and quality in area of operation.

  • To ensure packs are compliant with legal weight legislation as defined in The Weights and Measures Act.

  • To ensure records are maintained and up to date.

  • To continually improve finished product quality of packs provided to Despatch.

  • To ensure packs are appropriately labelled and labels are clearly readable, have correct coding and use by dates., To continuously monitor product quality, rejecting or reworking packs where required.

  • To conduct a detailed and recorded quality product check per hour and/or per product manufactured.

  • To ensure line clearance procedures are completed including removal of excess labels, packs, or product to ensure no mispacks / mislabels during changeover.

  • To ensure adequate cleaning during changeovers

  • To verify first packs after changeover are correct i.e. product, quantity, weight, labels.

  • To highlight any quality concerns to QA / Supervisor / Manager where required.

  • To monitor metal detection rejections and highlight unusual rejection volumes.

  • To raise any food safety concerns to QA / Supervisor / Manager.

  • To assist with any other tasks where required for the technical or production team.


  • Accountabilities

    The Quality Control Operative reports to High-Risk Manager, Technical Manager, Factory Manager and if requires Directors as well as to the legal requirements of any law that impacts upon the processes of the Company.

    Quality Control has personal Responsibility under the various acts of regulations such as:
  • The Food Safety Act 1990

  • General Product Safety Regulations 1994

  • Meat Product (Hygiene) Regulations 1994

  • The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006

  • The Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999

  • The Weights and Measures Act 1963

  • The Food Labelling Regulations 1996

  • Regulations (EC) 852/2004 - Hygiene of foodstuffs

  • Regulation (EC) 853/2004 - Laying down specific hygiene rules for on the hygiene of foodstuffs

  • Regulation 834/2007 - Organic production and labelling organic products

    Experience working in a food environment is essential (chilled environment preferred, not necessarily in quality role)

  • Good attention to detail required.

  • Willing and able to work in a cold environment.

  • Able to work under pressure.

  • Pay: £13.50 per hour

    Expected hours: 45 per week
