This is an exciting role for an individual to join the Privacy Services team and be focused on understanding the client's business and supporting processes, building trust, and providing data privacy expertise across several business functions.

The role would be well suited to an individual who can provide expert advice and guidance to client on privacy and data protection matters including Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, PECR, and CCPA.,standards frameworks, operational models, and an understanding of established good practice in areas such as SaaS, IaaS and information security are all attributes that will be encompassed in the role.

Note: This role can work from our Seattle or Oakville offices on a hybrid basis with a minimum of one day per week spent in the office.

  • Presenting gap reports and audit reports to senior staff within the client

  • Designing and managing projects to improve a client's privacy maturity and working with the client to deliver the improvements.

  • Advising on records of processing activities including the initial analysis, documentation and refinement of client processing activities

  • Reviewing privacy related policies, procedures, and training materials, and promoting a culture of data protection compliance within clients.

  • Advising clients in relation to privacy compliance questions, risks and issues

  • Communicating with stakeholders and effectively managing their expectations in relation to the privacy service.

  • Managing client meetings including arranging and setting the agenda for weekly meetings and following up on actions from previous meetings.

  • Responding promptly and accurately to requests from clients and providing competent, intelligible advice on data protection matters.

  • Interpret complex legal requirements so that a client understands how they apply in practice and the actions required to comply with them.

  • Supervise and manage other members of the team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure successful delivery of services.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on privacy, keeping abreast of emerging trends, regulatory updates, and industry developments.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including legal, IT, security, and compliance, to integrate privacy considerations into business processes and systems.

  • Actively engage in business development activities, including identifying new business opportunities, nurturing client relationships, and contributing to proposals and pitches.

  • Participate in networking events, conferences, and industry forums to expand professional connections, promote the company's services, and stay informed about market trends and opportunities.

  • Maintain accurate time records for all billable and non-billable activities, ensuring compliance with Calligo policies and client requirements.

    3-5 years experience in providing data protection compliance advice.

  • Recognised qualifications in data protection such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E or CIPP/M

  • Experience with advising on data incident responses, information security, privacy, and compliance

  • Ability to understand complex business issues and present them in a straightforward way

  • Experience delivering client-facing or consultative type services

  • In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, Data Protection Act 2018, and other relevant privacy legislation and frameworks. Experience in operating in the role of Data Protection Officer, including liaising with regulators, such as the Information Commissioners' Office.

  • Proven experience in conducting privacy assessments, developing privacy policies and procedures, and implementing privacy programs.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and provide practical solutions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to lead and mentor junior team members and drive cross-functional collaboration.

  • Agile and flexible, capable of dealing with ambiguity, and confront challenges and opportunities with speed, endurance and decisiveness

  • The ability to efficiently understand client organisations and their business model and to tailor relevant processes to privacy requirements

  • To communicate effectively with different stakeholders about data protection and privacy matters
