Full Job Description
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Workflow Coder to join our friendly and dynamic team at Woolpit Health Centre. This role is a hybrid part time position for 20 hours per week. Experience of working in primary care or a similar role such as a medical summariser or clinical coder would be an advantage; however full training will be provided.
The post holder will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of clinical data and administrative duties to support the General Practitioners. The Workflow Coder will beresponsible for the screening of incoming clinical correspondence and read code relevant information into the patient's electronic healthcare records using the clinical system, Emis.
The post holder must have the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload on a day-to-day basis and work strictly in accordance with specific practice or national guidelines.
Main duties of the job
To follow practice protocols to ensure consistent and high quality care is provided to our patients
To screen all incoming clinical correspondence received from the Workflow Administrator and read code relevant information into the patients electronic healthcare records
To analyse and extract diagnostic and procedural information from clinical correspondence, assigning the appropriate code in an accurate and timely fashion
To identify where further investigation or clinical review is required and coordinate appropriate follow-up or medication changes with practice clinicians
To ensure computerised records are correct, accurate and up to date
To liaise with GPs, Secondary Care Sector and other health professionals to resolve clinical queries
To support all clinical staff with coding tasks as requested
To recognise own knowledge limits and seek advice from clinical colleagues or the GP Workflow Lead as appropriate
To alert the GP Workflow Lead or Administration Manager of any clinical coding errors or discrepancies within patients electronic records
To effectively manage workloads and resources to meet the standards expected by the GP Workflow Lead and Administration Manager
We provide services to over 16,000 patients who live in a practice area of 75 square miles of rural West Suffolk, straddling the A14, between Thurston in the west, and Haughley in the east.
