Full Job Description

Each tumour site specific Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) is responsible for the discussion and agreement of individual patient's diagnosis and treatment plans. This is an essential element of the services provided for each tumour site and the MDT Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all cancer patients are discussed. The recording of information relating to the meetings and to the individual patients discussed is a major function of this role, in particular accurate and timely monitoring information in respect of the waiting times targets must be collected, validated and reported. MDT Coordinators must work together as part of the Cancer Services.
Develop a knowledge and understanding of the patient pathway for individual tumour sites. Use this knowledge to ensure that the MDT discusses all cancer patients at appropriate stages of their diagnosis and treatment plan development. Capture the outcome of the patient discussion live at the MDT using the Cancer Information System., Develop and maintain up to date knowledge of the CWT standards being set nationally and locally for cancer.
Liaise with the relevant departments to ensure that all test results, imaging films, case notes and other relevant information are available for discussion at the MDT meeting.
Must attend MDM and record the list of attendees and apologies for each meeting, this may require being available for an early start or during lunchtimes.
MDT decisions for each patient must be accurately recorded during the course of the meeting and signed off by the relevant Consultant. How the data will be collected will be subject to change as the clinical datasets, systems and procedures are developed.
Develop working practices with the MDT to ensure that details of MDT decisions relating to each patient's diagnosis and treatment care plan are dispatched to GPs within 24 hours of any decision.
Ensure that all cancer standards patients are accurately monitored through each stage of their diagnostic and treatment pathway. This will be achieved by working closely with members of the MDT (those based at the Trust and at the Cancer Centre(s)) and their support staff. It will also be necessary to build contacts and working processes with staff at other Trusts/Centres where patients may be referred for specialised diagnostic tests or treatment.
