Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Head of Data Science to lead our Claims Analytics team in the strategic application of data science and advanced analytical techniques to drive value across our Retail and Commercial claims processes, and beyond. As the Head of Data Science, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic vision for leveraging AI and ML techniques to deliver business value, while overseeing the development of end-to-end data science solutions to tackle complex business challenges.

This is an exciting opportunity to harness the power of our cloud-based data lake, spearhead the design and implementation of cutting-edge machine learning and AI models, and mentor a team of talented data scientists. In addition, you'll be instrumental in influencing AXA's understanding and utilization of data, while collaborating with key stakeholders to advocate for the potential of data science and encourage its integration across various business functions.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, either at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and inspire the data science team, driving strategy and standards across team.

  • Oversight of product development and responsibility for delivery of products.

  • Responsible for ensuring the advanced analytics hopper is constantly updated and refreshed with new use cases.

  • Identify opportunities or business problems which can be solved with data science; be the key point of contact for data science projects and lead projects through to delivery, including meetings with stakeholders.

  • Stakeholder management; engaging with both technical and non-technical teams, selling the vision of advanced analytics and data-based decision making to wider stakeholders.

  • Ensure Claims Analytics are a key member of the data science community at AXA both in UK and Globally, with a focus on identifying best practice, re-use, and collaboration opportunities across the business.

  • Articulate solution and the "what" of a solution, enabling the technical data scientists to define the "how".

  • Provide thought leadership by researching best practices, conducting experiments, and collaborating with industry leaders and developing strong links with academic world.

    Demonstrated leadership experience, building cohesive and successful teams in a statistical or data science role.

  • Experience working with large data sets from multiple sources, simulation, optimization and distributed computing tools.

  • Deep knowledge of machine learning, statistics and optimization.

  • Experience in Python.

  • Significant experience of delivering end to end data science solutions to achieve business benefit.

  • Stakeholder management experience, demonstrating the ability to present to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Attitude to thrive in a fun, fast-paced start-up like environment.

  • Experience in software engineering.
