Full Job Description

We are on the hunt for a Durability Lead Engineer to play a key role in JLR's transformation into a skills-based company and the continued development of hybrid and electrified propulsion systems. This role will help shape the future company strategy by providing expert knowledge in the field of CAE analysis delivery, specifically in the field of Powertrain Systems Engineering commodities.

You can expect to spend your time supporting the quality of the virtual design verification activity, driving design solutions to resolve issues throughout the product lifecycle.

The role demands an extremely strong technical background and understanding of engineering and mathematical models and principles at the highest level.

Key accountabilities & responsibilities

This role requires an ability to use these very complex data in a delivery environment and deliver results to plan. As the responsible Lead CAE Durability Engineer, you will support the concept and design specification of Propulsion Commodities using a variety of powertrain-specific CAE tools and hand calculations.

Further duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support task force activities to solve complex engineering problems.

  • Provide input into the status of the durability attribute, and technical risk judged and communicated at major gateways.

  • Support the development and documentation of CAE working practices and standards, lessons learned and prevent reoccurrence.

Background and track record in Powertrain Durability delivery using industry-standard tools e.g. Hyperworks, Simlab, Abaqus, Isight, FEMFAT, nCODE, or Optistruct.

  • Ability to build complex FE models, analyse and interpret data, draw conclusions, determine next steps, report and present work.

  • Excellent understanding of solid mechanics, dynamic behaviour of structures and the theory of Finite Elements.

  • Experienced in thermo-mechanical analysis of Propulsion System commodities: metal temperature prediction, distortion analysis, shock analysis, and fatigue prediction.

  • Experienced in vibration analysis of Propulsion System commodities, modal analysis, linear forced frequency, Random Vibration and corresponding fatigue predictions.

Bring all this to the home of premium innovation, and you'll find the opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, membership of a competitive pension plan and performance related bonus scheme. All this and more makes JLR the perfect place to continue your journey.

  • This role may offer the opportunity for hybrid working where you can split your time between working from home and in the office. At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees with more choice and flexibility around how, when and where they work, if suitable for their role. Further details can be discussed with the Hiring Manager at interview stage.

JLR is committed to equal opportunity for all.
