Full Job Description

Neway is looking for a Legal Case Manager to join our client based with Islington Council., This role is starting asap, working 35 hours a week in an ongoing contract.

Pay Rate is £22.62 p.h PAYE (equivalent to £29.62 umbrella)

They will work along side the legal team under the management of the legal and surveying manager

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Legal and Surveying Team Manager, the Legal Repairs Team Case Manager is responsible for delivering an excellent standard for the Legal Repairs Team.
1. Effectively project managing high profile cases, maintaining clear communications with Head of service, senior management, members of the team, and other internal staff, contractors and residents.

2. Ensure that Legal repairs projects are delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality. To liaise and negotiate with contractors.

3. Examine tenders, invoices, accounts and claims rendered by contractors and respond appropriately. Obtain tenders/quotations from approved contractors for works not covered by the main contracts, and ensure that proper approvals for expenditure are obtained before ordering any works, all to be in accordance with Islington Councils policy and procedures.

4. Maintain the highest possible standards of achievements, such that projects and programs are delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality.

5. Give support and guidance to colleagues and provide specialist knowledge on the Freedom of information act 2000 and Data Protection Act.

6. To liaise with all relevant stakeholders in order to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the service through scoping of works, management and utilisation of all resources

7. To work proactively with the Finance department to ensure all financial procedures are effective and co-operating in accordance with the organisational policy. To prepare, control and manage specific budget streams

8. Set up systems to ensure that finance related-tasks include monitoring and reconciliation of income and expenditure are completed effectively to support the service.

9. To attend site with surveyors if required, legal team consultants to assess works/ progress to ensure works are completed to Islington Councils standards in the most efficient timescales.

10. Assist when required provide technical support/advice to colleagues.

11. Assist the Legal Disrepair and Diagnostics Manager in the development of policies and procedures for the team.

12. Ensure case conference are efficiently conducted

13. To manage complaints case work as directed by Legal Disrepair manager to meet targets and award compensation where applicable

14. To draft briefings and reports as required in relation to service improvement and work independently and manage a variable caseload.

15. Have a good working knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice, legal documentation and procedures.

16. Provide prompt, courteous and helpful response when dealing with queries from, or initiating contact with service users, their representatives, outside agencies and residents of the Borough.

17. Establish and maintain good lines of communication with colleagues at Islington Council and within the Borough of Islington.

18. Monitor and report any variances to agreed standards and recommend a corrective action.

19. Maintain proper and accurate file records. Reply to incoming correspondence, e-mails and phone calls so as to comply with standards set by Islington Council.

20. Such other minor and/or non-recurring duties appropriate to the post as may be directed.

21. Evaluating possible causation of defects when connected with building works and assisting the team with Boundary Reports.

22. Managing varied caseloads utilising time management skills. Paying attention to detail accuracy and diligence.

23. Must have an ability to work under pressure have good time keeping.
