Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join Performance Materials, part of the Appliances business unit. The Engineering team requires a Materials Development Engineer to be responsible for new product development for a range of applications including heat shrink products. With a strong focus on innovation, you will bring novel products to the marketplace and will play a part in the evolution of the new business unit.
As a Development Engineer you will be responsible for all aspects of new product development including development of technical requirements from the voice of the customer user requirements, defining new concepts, new product development, testing and qualification criteria, and industrialization of the new product. You will be expected to bring relevant, practical and theoretical expertise in new product development, and work with multifunctional, global teams to bring projects to fruition.

Short Description

  • Take responsibility for product development and qualification from market definition and support product industrialisation to commercial release.

  • Define, coordinate, and drive technical activities to lead cross-functional project teams from an engineering perspective.

  • Manage multiple priorities to maintain project progress.

  • Coordinate technical activities and communications.

  • Prepare documentation including, for example, product specifications, test plans and production drawings.

  • Design products to optimise for cost, quality and manufacturability.

  • Collaborate closely with global manufacturing teams.

  • Contribute to the technical roadmap of the Performance Materials team.

  • Create customer and supplier relationships.

  • Comply with TE H&S policies and maintain and coordinate safe systems of work with local management.

  • Submit all IP information to legal according to policy and prior to public disclosure.

    The ideal candidate will hold experience within a product development or similar role and,

  • Essential skills, experience and qualifications
  • Preferably hold a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline; Material Science, Polymer Engineering or similar, or relevant experience with a minimum of 6 years of professional experience; or Master's degree with 6 or more years of experience; or PhD level with 3 or more years of experience; or local equivalent.

  • Demonstrate technical experience in material development, polymer processing including compounding and extrusion as it relates to tubing or continuous production environments (e.g., heat shrink tubing)

  • Demonstrate understanding of product development by integrating deep knowledge of theory and practical experience into a system engineering development process.

  • Develop solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovation.

  • Must be self-motivated, organized, with the ability to prioritize, set and achieve goals and drive improvements in business processes for product development.

  • Adapt and make departures from traditional methods or approaches to develop innovative products.

  • Take a proactive approach to design for cost, quality and manufacturability.

  • Knowledge of Voice of Customer, Design to Value, Design for Six Sigma, LEAN Manufacturing and LEAN business processes is preferred.
