Full Job Description

  • To become acquainted with each member of the class and familiar with his/her personal/domestic circumstances.

  • To foster the personal and social developments of each pupil.

  • In liaison with Headmaster and Deputy Heads, to be a close link with parents, initiating contact in appropriate circumstances and ensuring that there is a record of this.

  • To encourage each pupil to reach his/her potential and to deliver the curriculum according to the programmes of study agreed upon by the Heads of Department

  • To be conscious of the requirements of other allied departments.

  • To monitor attendance and punctuality.

  • To ensure pupils are smartly and appropriately dressed. To promote good order in the classroom and its proper use - tidiness/cleanliness!

  • To assist the class in preparing class assemblies.

  • To ensure stimulating and high-level sports coaching is planned and delivered.

  • To monitor reading/ spelling records and to ensure that the children are regularly heard reading aloud.

  • To follow the school's SEN policy.

  • To be involved in setting targets for pupils and working on their self-assessment.

  • To maintain pupil records/files and ensure consistent assessment of pupils' work.

  • To collate reports and then write a class teacher report.

  • To play a distinct role on the school's disciplinary system and when necessary pass pupils on to the Deputy Head (Pastoral).

  • To be involved in the extra-curricular programme at the school.

  • To cover duties including break time and changing room duty where appropriate as directed by Deputy Headmasters'.

  • To attend Pastoral, Common Room and INSET meetings as necessary.

  • To ensure that the classroom is a visually stimulating environment and that displays are regularly changed and are relevant to the topics being covered at that time.

  • To ensure that the general class timetable is displayed, as well as any other relevant notices.

  • To display music timetables and keep a copy of the SEN register/lesson timetables in teachers desk drawers. To remind pupils when they should be in these lessons.

  • To keep up to date with school policy documents.

  • To teach all aspects of the primary curriculum at Beeston Hall alongside other games, academic and pastoral commitments

  • Liaise closely with the office staff regarding the dissemination of information within School and to other schools in terms of fixtures.

  • Role model to staff and children with high standards of presentation, punctuality and deportment within the school

  • To be aware of and report that all / any hazards, accidents and near misses that happen in relation to your teaching commitments

  • To attend parent consultation evenings, open days and other school events as directed by the Head., To fulfill the requirements of the school's policy on child protection and inform - as appropriate or necessary the safeguarding leads and/or matrons, if any referral to outside agencies is required

  • To support the school's discipline policy and foster an acceptance of the code of conduct in the boarding house and school

  • To be familiar with the school's policies and procedures for child protection, countering bullying, substance misuse and health and safety, and be aware of the appropriate response needed in these areas in the education of children

  • To be aware and carry out the Fire Evacuation Procedures in relation to the school Fire Safety Policy

  • Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of essential school policies

  • Attend and maintain all appropriate training courses and certification

    About the School:

    Beeston Hall School aims to provide boys and girls aged 4 - 13 with the best possible education. The School is set in 30 acres on the beautiful North Norfolk coast, just ten minutes walk from the sea and surrounded by 700 acres of National Trust land. There are excellent modern educational facilities, a Library, a Music School, an Art Centre, an ICT room, a new D & T Centre, an indoor Shooting Range, Sports Hall, a Swimming Pool, full size Astroturf, floodlit all-weather area and extensive playing fields. The school has 146 pupils, of whom 36 are full or weekly boarders, with another 20 flexi-boarders. All pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide and exciting range of extra-curricular activities such as shooting, cooking, Scottish Reels dancing, Scouts, chess, sailing, ballet, extra drama, fencing, jewellery making, and camp craft.

    Children are prepared for entry to a wide variety of boarding Public Schools through either Scholarship or Common Entrance. These include schools such as Ampleforth, Eton, Gresham's, Harrow, Norwich, Oakham, Oundle, Queen Margaret's, Repton, Rugby, The Leys, Tudor Hall, Uppingham and Winchester.

    While teaching at Beeston Hall is demanding and requires a full commitment, the work is fulfilling and can be great fun. On appointment, new staff are provided with a mentor and, for the duration of their first year, are supported by our induction process.


  • The salary will be discussed at interview. At present Beeston Hall staff may contribute to the defined benefit Teachers' Pension Scheme or opt out of this and contribute to the APTIS defined contribution scheme. Full-time staff are expected to operate as Form Tutors, to contribute to the games and/or activities programme, and to undertake day/evening duties as required.
