Full Job Description

Base Location: Flexible UK | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around the UK., As a Senior Cable Policy Engineer, you will act as a technical authority, engaging deeply with every aspect of cable management within our distribution network. This pivotal role extends from developing specifications and ensuring compliance with the latest standards to managing substantial supply contracts and introducing new equipment. Your technical expertise will empower our team, drive innovation, and uphold our commitment to safety and efficiency.,

  • Overseeing and managing framework supply contracts valued over £100m, ensuring strategic equipment sourcing.


  • Leading equipment specification, design, standardisation, and introducing new technologies to reduce lifecycle costs.


  • Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, significantly contributing to the health and safety culture.


  • In this role you will:
  • Serve as the technical authority within SSEN Distribution specifically for cables spanning LV to 132kV.

  • Develop, maintain and standardise cable specifications, reinforcing our commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency in distribution.

  • Manage significant supply contracts, ensuring sustainable and cost-effective procurement of essential materials.

  • Offer leadership in equipment specification and introduce innovative solutions to enhance reliability and performance.

  • Participate in national and international technical forums, shaping the future of cable standards and technology.

    We are looking for a highly skilled individual who excels in both technical expertise and leadership., A thorough understanding of international and British Standards, with the competency to make key engineering judgements.

  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of effective team management and strategic decision-making.

  • Strong capability in managing significant change, demonstrating the ability to lead equipment roll-outs and innovations effectively.

    Salary: £47,600 - £71,600 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
