What will you be doing?

We have seen an increasing amount of flooding across Cambridgeshire in recent years and as a Lead Local Flood Authority we are looking at ways we can manage this to reduce the frequency and severity in the future. We are in the fortunate position of having a dedicated flood risk management programme running for the next two years to develop a programme of schemes in collaboration with other partner organisations.

This role will engage with partners across the county and work with our Flood Risk Programme Coordinator to monitor and apply for external funding as it becomes available and will develop and oversee a number of flood resilience projects such as:

  • Natural Flood Management schemes

  • Sustainable drainage retrofit

  • Watercourse restoration

  • Water level telemetry

  • Property Flood Resilience

  • In addition to the above there will be the opportunity to get involved with all aspects of the team's work including flood investigations and enforcement, land drainage consenting and community engagement., You will need to work closely with internal colleagues and external partner organisations to deliver actions and projects within our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy. This means you will need to have practical knowledge of working and negotiating with stakeholders and the ability to build networks of contacts, maintaining effective relationships across a variety of organisations., Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, along with our employee network 'IDEAL' and self-organised peer support groups help us to foster an inclusive, supportive and safe working environment where people feel valued, respected, and empowered. We collect relevant diversity data for monitoring as part of the recruitment process to understand the diversity of our applicants and monitor any trends throughout the recruitment processes so that we can take meaningful action.

You will have experience working in the flood risk management sector, ideally having had previous involvement in project management and delivery. This means you'll have an understanding of the different sources of flooding across Cambridgeshire and knowledge of relevant policies, strategies and guidance documents.

Cambridgeshire is a great place to work and live with a diverse population, an urban centre in Cambridge, historic Isle of Ely, Huntingdon and St Ives as well as more rural landscapes.
