Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Performance Analyst to join our fantastic Performance Analysis team. This is an exciting opportunity in our Digital & Technology Directorate where you will be helping to design and deliver quality digital services for the millions of users of our services.

You will perform a critical role in digital service teams, working closely with our other professions such as user research, design, product and development to identify potential issues, create data driven hypotheses and performance frameworks to iterate, improve and test services and provide collective insights. You will be responsible for communicating analysis and insight across Companies House digital services. We are currently undergoing a period of organisational transformation so delivering at pace and adapting your priorities will be key as will collaborating with others and engaging with stakeholders within and outside of our organisation.

You will be a confident and experienced performance analyst with strong interpersonal skills who enjoys working in a user focused, agile environment. You care about users and are passionate about using data to ensure product success.

This post offers the opportunity to:

  • Work with multidisciplinary, agile teams to help them identify what good looks like" and develop hypotheses.

  • Seek new ways of collecting data from digital analytics and other sources, make the case for additional tracking and data collection, ensure data is accurate and significant and provide analysis and actionable insight through effective storytelling and data visualisations.

  • Work with other disciplines and datasets to enrich data stories.

  • Contribute to the development of new skills and procedures within the Performance Analysis team to improve data analysis.

    Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • Analyse data and use this analysis to create compelling, evidence-based and actionable data stories to share with stakeholders to drive decisions and inform the iterative design of the service or product.

  • Define, implement and promote standards/policies to ensure technical and analytical best practice and continuous improvement across all areas of Digital performance analytics data collection, configuration of digital analytics and tagging, performance reporting and generating insight through compelling data stories.

  • Lead the performance analysis of your area to make sure services meet the performance requirements set out in the Digital Service Standard and represent Performance Analysis at service assessments.

  • Collaborate with developers to ensure analytical configurations are implemented, tested and updated accordingly.

  • Work with service teams to develop performance measurement frameworks including key performance indicators (KPIs), turning service goals into tangible performance measures.

  • Actively participate in the government Performance Analyst community to share examples of best practice in performance management.

    You will be aligned to our Cardiff Office, where we are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work.     Companies House uses a blended interview technique, allowing us to find out more about you. We use the Success Profile framework and may include Strength based questions in the interview.

    Successful candidates must pass a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before they can be appointed.

    BPSS is an entry level security check. It uses the Police National Computer (PNC) to make sure a candidate has no convictions. The check returns evidence of any current criminal record and un-spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

    Successful candidates must meet the security requirements for Security Check (SC) before they can be appointed.

    Nationality statement

  • Person specification

    We are looking for the following experience, which will be assessed at sift and at interview. Please refer to the experience and technical skills headings when writing your personal statement.

    Experience - we're looking for somebody who has:
  • Experience of turning complex data into compelling, clear and actionable stories, presenting analysis and recommendations for action in easily understandable and engaging ways including online dashboards and other data visualisations.

  • Strong proficiency with digital analytics platforms, including Matomo and Google Analytics.

  • Substantial experience in digital analytics and data analysis including using digital analytics APIs.

  • Working level knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript or other programming languages such as Python in the context of configuration and interrogation of analytics and to develop online dashboards.

  • Experience in integrating digital analytics data with qualitative data, such as user surveys and user research, to develop hypotheses for testing and gather richer insight.

  • Experience in mentoring and coaching other performance analysts to improve the effective collection, analysis and presentation of data.

  • An awareness or experience of using agile methodology.

    £37,350 - £42,329


  • Successful candidates will be offered the minimum of the pay scale, but in some circumstances salary negotiations will be dependent on the demonstration of skills and experience. All our roles come with an excellent benefits package, including the generous Civil Service Pension Scheme. Further salary increases depend entirely upon the outcome of our annual pay negotiation with central government. If you are a current Civil Servant transferring to us, your salary will be discussed in line with our pay policies.

    Please note that the minimum salary does not reflect the 2023/24 pay deal and we are therefore expecting this to increase in the near future.
